Mercury Cougar Bumper
People do not often realize how much of an impact a bumper can have on a vehicle.
Also, bumpers are usually not taken into account during the car’s design process.
They are utilitarian, they are only meant to serve their purpose. What is a bumper?
How does it work? Mercury Cougar front bumpers are typically your vehicle’s showpiece.
They are usually the first thing that people notice about your car and it generally
defines your ride’s personality.
Bumpers are mounted in the front and rear end of a vehicle. Front bumpers are
available in fiberglass, polyurethane, ABS plastic, and carbon fiber. They are
bent and formed into specific shapes in order to absorb and deliver momentum during
a collision and to complement with the lines of the car’s fascia as well. In the
event of a collision, bumpers absorb some of the blow, decreasing the possible
damage to the vehicle and its occupants. All bumpers are designed to absorb the
energy of the impact.

But aside from that purpose, front bumpers have another function. It is to protect
the front of the automobile by diverting the entire car’s momentum to the object
with which it has collided. They are installed to your vehicle’s chassis with
special impact absorbers. These shock absorbers are often spring loaded. During
slow speed collisions, this allows the front bumper to compress, and then extend
back to its original position.
Many front bumpers feature open areas for ducts or grilles which should be covered
with mesh. Some applications may require modification or removal of certain safety
equipment. Most front bumpers offered on the market these days are extremely heavy,
which can greatly decrease a car's ability to accelerate quickly and to reach
top speeds. A complete Mercury Cougar body kit includes a Mercury Cougar front
bumper. |
