The Mercedes Benz 190 series is one of the examples. The MB 190 series is different
from the 190. The Mercedes Benz 190 was released in mid-50s. This model was in
line with the 180 and prior to that, the 170. The MB 190 has the extension name
SL which was produced up to 1963. It became popular during its time because of
its striking feature and undoubtedly new body styling plus the fashionable fins
on the rear wings and an overall squarer look.
 The 190 series meanwhile was released in the early 80s. It was the first MB small
car which rapidly gained popularity as the “Baby Benz.” Over the years this compact
sports car made several engine and equipment refinements. It first came gasoline-engine
and diesel form in the 1980s. It was the least expensive sedan among all the Mercedes.
It has the standard 2.3L I4 engine capable of producing 130 horsepower output.
During the 90s, the 190 acquired the 2.6-liter 6-cylinder engine, borrowed from
the midsize 260E sedan, developed 158 horsepower.
A 5-speed manual transmission was standard; 4-speed automatic optional. The 190
was the sole model that offered with optional transmissions. The last production
of the 190 series was in 1993 offering 4 trims: E 2.3, E 2.3 Ltd. Edition which
both can produce up to 130 horsepower and 146 pounds-feet of torque, E 2.6, and
E 2.6 Ltd. Edition which can reach a higher 158 horsepower and 162 pounds-feet
of torque. The 190 series was fast, small, and not as luxurious as the higher
model but better compared to cars of its class. The 190 soon became the reference
of the future compact Mercedes Benz, the C Class series. |
