Mazda Head Gasket
Sitting in between two auto components may be a very simple task, but not if
doing so entails a lot of other functions. Such is the case with the Mazda head
gasket. The head gasket may look like a very simple component, simply sitting
between the cylinder block and the cylinder head. A thorough study about its function,
however, will make you realize how important a vehicle component it is. So important
is the Mazda head gasket that if it gets damaged, the vehicle is in for a lot
of trouble.
The Mazda head gasket is considered as the most critical gasket installed in
a Mazda vehicle. Why? Simply because it has to seal tight a lot of things. Primarily,
the only function of the head gasket is to enhance the sealing between the cylinder
block and the cylinder head. But since the cylinder head holds a lot of holes
for various passages, it has also become the task of the head gasket to enhance
the sealing on all of those passages. Thus, the Mazda head gasket must also tighten
the seal all of the combustion chambers as well as the lubricant oil and coolant
passages between the head and block.

So what should you expect if the head gasket of your Mazda gets damaged or blown
off? A lot of leaking! Oil leaking out of the cylinder block would be a minor
problem in this case, especially if the oil is simply seeping in between the cylinder
head and block. But if the damage allows oil to leak out of the coolant passage
or coolant out of the combustion chamber, then your vehicle is in a lot of trouble.
In either case, the heat absorption capability of the coolant would be greatly
lessened, resulting to engine overheating and other engine damages.
So if you have noticed heavy oil leaks and coolant leaks on your Mazda, it is
recommended that you have a mechanic check on your Mazda head gasket at once.
Replacing the head gasket immediately, however, is not recommended. Oil leaks
and coolant leaks may be caused by other problems like a damaged cylinder head,
cylinder block or turbocharger. It is better that you have a mechanic check on
the problem first before replacing anything. |
