There are 2 basic types of auto mirrors, the side mirrors and the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror allows the driver to see whatever is happening behind the car. Rear view mirrors are located in the interior of the car and can be manually adjusted. With a quick glance upwards instead of turning around, he can see approaching traffic, pedestrians and other events and allow him to act quickly.

Meanwhile, side mirrors allow the driver to see whatever is happening beyond his peripheral vision. Side view mirrors are located in the exterior of the car near the doors (some car models have side view mirrors as part of the door itself). These mirrors are more vulnerable to damage as they are exposed to the elements. They can also be easily damaged in accidents and bumps. Some side view mirrors are more sophisticated, featuring defoggers and fully automated controls (most side view mirrors are manually adjusted).
