The floor pan is at the bottom of the car assembly. This is the
foundation of the body shell. The floor pan is stamped with bulges
and curves to accommodate the spatial requirements of the engine,
transmission and rear axle, as well as the passenger compartment. A
second floor pan is often used for the trunk of the car. If the car
has a separate frame, the floor pan is bolted to the side rails
buffered by large rubber cushions. With unibody construction, the
floor pan is attached to the several metal pieces that make up the
chassis center section.
