The anchor pin is a strong metal pin mounted to the backing plate,
which prevents the shoes from turning along with the wheel when the
brakes are applied.
Shoe retainers are small spring clips of various designs used to hold
the brake shoes against the backing plate. These pins insure shoe
alignment and prevent them from rattling.
